Description of the ArtWork “The Embrace” F Version

This is the first sculpture created by the artist Cesare Catania and referring to the theme of the Embrace. Until now the artist had proposed 5 Embraces made with various techniques but always relating to two-dimensional art. Now the Embrace moves to the three-dimensional plane, showing two figures in the act of embracing each other who seem to dance in space. The shapes, simple and graceful, swirl harmoniously.

The concept of The Embrace

The geometric figures represented in the 2016 pictorial work now become three-dimensional heads, spheres and curvilinear rods. The concept of the embrace remains strong and clear but this time the sculptural expression gives the work a more slender figure compared to the 2016 painting. In the latter the two characters heartily embraced each other in a calm and colorful fabric. In the sculptural representation, however, the two characters seem to dance in space. Cesare Catania’s cubism thus passes from two-dimensionality to three-dimensionality.

“The Connection with the Embrace project”

The Artwork in question is among those forming part of the Embrace Project, an artistic project of socio-cultural origin, conceived and developed by Cesare Catania himself and which has as its main objective that of supporting art, culture, medicine and all sciences in general through the most incisive means of communication: contemporary art.

Art therefore becomes the means with which to do good, in an ethical way, and through which to convey a simple but strong message: “Let’s go back to hugging each other again”.

The Embrace Project and all its artistic and social declinations have allowed Cesare Catania to be appointed the only World Ambassador of International Hugging Day for 2023.

The Cultural Background

The sculpture exhibited here derives from the famous painting Oil on canvas, depicting in a narrow sense the embrace between a man and a woman and in a broader sense the embrace between two people of different colours.
