Description of the digital artwork:
The sculpture “La Bocca dell’Etna” is proposed in this digital version in white marble speckled with black spots. The work of art, compact in shape and statuesque in its presence, floats under a cone of light coming from space. In this timeless space the sculpture moves without the ordinary limits imposed by physics: the central body seems free to move independently of the external part even though it does not have physical pins on which to rotate. The sphericity of the light source and the roundness of the movements balances the hard and square shapes of both space and sculpture, giving the digital artwork an artistically harmonious shape.
The Feeling of “Precariousness”
The background is surreal and crumbling at the same time. The sound of the drops falling into the void emphasizes a feeling of precariousness but at the same time marks the movements of the sculpture almost as if it were dancing in space. The echo of the drops amplifies the feeling of uniqueness and at the same time of solitude of the dancing body.
The “Spherism”
As already seen in other works by Caesar Catania, whether they are of traditional physical art or digital art, the concept of “spherism” is taken up and amplified both in the forms and in the movements. In fact, in this work, not only the cone of light that enters the room has a spherical shape but also the sinuous and circular movements of the sculpture mean that a work of art that would only have edges and corners is actually soft and harmonious. .

Cultural Background
“The Mouth of Etna” is a work of art that has a history within the collection of Cesare Catania. In fact, the artist created 6 other physical versions before approaching the same theme with a digital work of art.
The first Mouth of Etna (A Version) dates back to 2014.
In that first edition, the inspirations came from an aerial flight over the Etna volcano, a flight that suggested inspiration to the author thanks to the strength and energy of the mouth of a crater seen from above.

The Materials: Tradition and Technology
In all the versions of “La Bocca dell'Etna”, the author has materialized his imagination by combining tradition and technology. The first certainly materialized in the use of materials such as natural rope and gypsum, the second by mixing together silicone-based plastic polymers and natural water-based pigments.
This contrast is particularly evident in the versions B C D and E, a quartet of sculptures that represent the same concept in a decidedly contemporary way.
06
Art and Medicine: Dalton's Syndrome
In “La Bocca dell’Etna” E Version (2017), one of the 4 contemporary art sculptures that represent the mouth of the volcano crater seen from above, the artist studied the palette of colors inspired by the visual spectrum available for people with Dalton's syndrome.
In fact, this sculpture allows all people affected by any form of Dalton's syndrome (tritanopia, deuteranopia, etc ...) to perceive the same sensations as a person without visual conditioning, and this thanks to a chromatic decomposition that shows very different chromatic differences. similar, regardless of what is the visual filter imposed from the outside.
07
Soft and harmonious surfaces
The sculptor Cesare Catania often balances in his works the aesthetic rigor of the square shapes with the superficial roundness.
Even in the sculptures “La Bocca dell'Etna” this oxymoron is particularly evident: in fact, rusty steel cages and angularly cut and open square canvases as well as chaotically intertwined natural rope threads, all softly accompanied and softened by the use of plaster or of mixtures between silicone and acrylic. Blends that confuse the surfaces and guarantee the work its solidity and at the same time its harmony.
