Description of the digital artwork:

The “Heart of the Earth” D Version is proposed in an unusual version in white and shocking pink marble, a material that does not exist in nature but is certainly present in the Metaverse. During the twirling and sinuous movements, the camera pauses for a few seconds on a sphere of incandescent lava.

Art and Meteorite

In the previous sculptures (B and C Version), made by the sculptor in steel, white marble powder, concrete and meteorite fragments, the same small sphere was wanted by the artist Cesare Catania in Gibeon meteorite, precisely to ideally connect a work of art created on Earth and the infinite space of the Universe. In this D version, on the other hand, everything seems upside down: the setting, the sounds and the materials used take us back to a future, almost extraterrestrial time. In this case, the tribute to lava ideally brings the sculpture back to a terrestrial plane.

Opposites that Attract

The perfection and synchrony of the movements give this sculpture a grace that is reflected in the sinuous and delicate forms. The static and geometric balance between the sphere and the pyramid represent for the artist the junction point between opposites that not only attract each other but that even manage to create a harmonious and balanced work of art.

Cultural Background

“The Heart of the Earth” appears for the first time among the works of art by Cesare Catania in 2012 in an absolutely new A Version.

On the Saracen coast of the Sicilian coast, during a walk by the sea, the Author collects a raw olive root soaked in salt water. The sea and nature had left this “piece of life” lying on the sand. Cesare Catania works and carves this shapeless wood to give life to a work that has all the charge of fire red. The root always lives underground but without it there would be no life for the plant. She is the heart of the earth.

Love for Colors

“The Heart of the Earth” A Version (2012 - 2015) expresses strong and disruptive sensations through asymmetric shapes and bright colors.

The red, in fact, embellished with splashes of black color, makes this work unique in its kind, showing temperament and stability at the same time.

Passion for Quantum Physics

Subsequently the sculptor realizes two other works developing the same theme and the same inspirations.

These are two almost twin sculptures (B and C Version) made in 2018.

These are two twin sculptures that differ from each other only in the upper part. “The Heart of the Earth ”, both the “B Version ” (the one with a golden steel sphere) and the “C Version ” (the one with a resin pyramid), are contemporary art sculptures that connect to a previous work of art in wood and acrylic made by the same artist between 2012 and 2015, entitled “The Heart of the Earth (A Version)”. The two new sculptures “The Heart of the Earth (B-C Version)” in fact draw inspiration from the same concept of strength and energy that releases the Earth and are made of Carrara marble powder and white concrete.

The Energy of the Universe

To give even greater emphasis to the energetic aspect, the artist also wanted to combine the remains of a meteorite in the mixture.

Meteorite Sferico

The origin of the latter and the historical dating of the body coming from thousands of light years are controversial: the only certain data is that they are fragments belonging to the meteorite cataloged by official bodies and by NASA as “Gibeon Meteorite”, which fell in prehistoric times in the southern region of Namibia (Africa) and some pieces of which are exhibited in the most famous geology museums in the world. In one of these two sculptures, Cesare Catania wanted to concentrate all the strength of the elements considered to have the greatest energy impact: the inverted pyramid and the sphere, the marble dust from the Earth and the meteorite fragments from the Universe.

The “Spherism”

As already seen in other works by Cesare Catania, be they of traditional physical art or digital art, the concept of “spherism” is taken up and amplified both in the forms and in the movements.

From the B Version up to this Digital D Version, inverted pyramids and spheres intertwine in an elegant dance.

The sphere appears both in the main body of the sculpture and also in a small but determined appendix on the upper edge of the pedestal.

This game of spherical references between different parts of the sculpture is even more highlighted in the D Version (the digital one) in which the viewer observes the work of art from a perspective that seems to dance around the sculpture with concentric and harmonic movements.
